General MIDI
An extension to the MIDI standard that specifies specific instrument sounds that are to be associated with different patch numbers. The list of instruments and patch numbers can be found at the Patch list box in the Project Editor. The standard was created so that there was some consistency between different synthesizers playing the same MIDI information, although each synthesizer is free to interpret what each instrument should sound like.
